General description
Lead iodide is adirect wide bandgap semiconductor with unique properties like high thermalconductivity, high electron saturation velocity, chemical stability, and widetemperature range operation capabilities (−200 °C up to +130 °C). Itis widely used as an x- and γ-ray detector, as it shows high absorption andcarrier collection with minimal noise. PbI2 is also used in solarcells, bioimaging, and photoconductors.
Application
Lead iodide can be used to develop X-ray detectors for medical imaging.
It can also be used to prepare cesium leadiodide perovskite quantum dots for highly stable LEDs.
