General DescriptionPoly(3-octylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3OT) is an alkylthiophene based conductive polymer with high electroluminescence. It is soluble in most of the organic solvents and can be prepared by the electrochemical polymerization of 3-octylthiophene (3OT). It has hydrophobic properties and can be used as a transducer for ion selective electrodes. Poly(3-alkylthiophene)s exhibit thermo- and solvatochromism. Regiorandom poly(3-octylthiophene) shows relatively weak red PL in dilute solution. The emission is largely quenched in concentrated solutions and solid thin films.1:1 (head-to-head):(head-to-tail) linkages of regioisomers.ApplicationP3OT forms a nanocomposite with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for devising a high performance semiconducting material. It can also be used as a π-conjugating polymer for the fabrication of organic electronic based devices which include polymeric diodes, solar cells and photovoltaic modules. Used in organic field-effect transistors and in polymer-based solar cells. Conducting polymer. Rechargeable battery electrodes, electrochromic devices, chemical and optical sensors, light-emitting diodes, microelectrical amplifiers, field-effect transistors and non-linear optical materials.
