L-Thyroxine, free acid, L-Thyroxine (T4) and triiodo-L-thyronine (T3) are hormones containing iron produced from thyroglobulin in the follicular cells of the thyroid. The stimulation of growth and development and regulation of metabolic rate by these hormones appear to be due to their effects on DNA transcription and, therefore, protein synthesis.L-Thyroxine was used to study the light-induced hormone conversion of T4 to T3 in regulation of photoperiodic response of gonads in Japanese quail.1 The product was used as a test compound for studying the impact of numerous hormones on the surface morphology of rat testicular cells in culture.
