Isoniazid-d4 is a labeled form of isoniazid that is used as an antibiotic and inhibits mycolic acid biosynthesis. Metabolized by hepatic N-acetyltransferase (NAT) and cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) to form hepatotoxins. This compound is both an inhibitor and inducer of various isoforms of cytochrome P450, a family of enzymes extensively involved in the metabolism of xenobiotics. CYP isoforms induced by this product include CYP2E1. Isoniazid reversibly inhibits CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 and inactivates CYP1A2 and CYP2A6. The deuterated form is useful in kinetic isotope effect studies and as an internal standard for NMR experiments.
