Glycine is an inhibitory amino acid neurotransmitter that only acts on receptors which bring out an enhanced chloride conductance. However, it interacts with and allostericaly activates the excitatory receptor N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA), thus, resulting in excitatory transmission in brain.
