General description

Casein hydrolysate is commonly used in microbiology as a nitrogen source and a supplement in microbial culture media. It is produced by the digestion of casein with hydrochloric acid and contains a complex mixture of peptides and amino acids. Casein hydrolysate is particularly useful in media formulations for the growth of fastidious bacteria that require specific nutrients or additional growth factors. Application

It can also be used in the production of certain antibiotics, toxins, bacteriocins, and enzymes. It is especially suited for the large-scale cultivation of Diphteria bacteria, Tetanus bacilli and Streptococci. In industrial fermentations it favors a high yield of biomass, particularly for certain yeasts and fastidious bacilli.
