Antibiotic-Antimycotic Solution 100X, 100 mL

Contains 10,000 units/ml of penicillin (base), 10 mg/ml of streptomycin (base), and 25 µg/ml of amphotericin B in 0.85% saline. Recommended for use in cell culture applications at 10 ml/L. Penicillin inhibits bacterial cell-wall synthesis by preventing peptidoglycan linkage followed by the triggering of autolysins. Streptomycin inhibits prokaryote protein synthesis by preventing the transition from initiation complex to chain-elongating ribosome and causes miscoding. Amphotericin B interferes with fungal membrane permeability by forming channels in the membranes and causing small molecules to leak out. The solution works both as an anti-bacterial and an anti-fungal. It is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as yeasts and other fungi.
