Soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in benzene and chloroform. The pH value of 1% aqueous solution is 2.15, and its aqueous solution is light yellow brown. It turns yellow after adding hydrochloric acid, and turns blue purple after adding sodium hydroxide. It's stimulating.
