General description

This Certified Reference Material (CRM) is produced and certified in accordance with ISO 17034 and ISO/IEC 17025. All information regarding the use of this CRM can be found on the certificate of analysis.

Aflatoxins are a group of hypertoxic bisdihydrofurano secondary metabolites produced by fungi of the genus Aspergillus, mostly A. flavus, A. Parasiticus, and A. nomius. Aflatoxin M₁ is formed upon hydroxylation of one of the major aflatoxins B₁ in the milk of dairy animals by the enzyme cytochrome P-450 enzyme.

Application

The CRM was also used as follows:

• Aflatoxin M₁ analysis of 230 samples of different milk types for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) based screening followed by confirmation using high-performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection (HPLC-FID)
• Quantification of aflatoxin M₁ in 3198 samples of raw cow milk by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
