ABT 724 trihydrochloride is a selective D4DR (dopamine D|4|receptor) partial agonist with an EC|50|=12.4nM. It is known that ABT 724 trihydrochloride aids sildenafil′s ability to inhibit cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase type 5. cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 catalyzes the hydrolysis of 3',5'-cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). As a result ABT 724 trihydrochloride increases intracavernosal pressure. Studies suggest that sildenafil can enhance neuro-, synapto- and angiogenesis in rat models of stroke, via its ability to increase vasodilation.
